Why Are My Clothes Tighter The More I Work Out? Do You Gain Before You Lose?

Is My Workout Routine Faulty To Be Able To Tone Up And Lose Weight? How Come I Haven’t Seen Results?
I have recently joined a gym & have been working out for the past 4 weeks. My weight & height are 235 lbs & 6′2″ I have a larger then average body type from working in construction so the BMI is defiantly off a bit for me. I feel my ideal weight would be about two hundred. That said my question is as follows:
my workout consists of about 12 reps of heavy weight doing chest, arms, triceps, shoulders, biceps, & fly exercise. From there I go to the bike & bike for about 40 minutes, then do a second set of about the same weight, then I jog for about 40 minutes at 5 miles per hour & finish up with my third set. All in all I do this every other day & the routene takes about 3 hours to finish.
my question is, 1) when I am working out on the machines I see people just sitting on them, maybe doing 100 reps of a weight before moving on where as i only do about 12 will i still see gains?
and 2) its been 4 weeks & my weight has stayed basically the same however my intense workout schedule & now healthy eating should have lost at least a little in a month right?

How Soon Do You Lose Or Gain Weight After Being Really Healthy Or Unhealthy?
If I eat really healthy or really unhealthy, how long before I actually gain or lose that much weight?
I know it takes about 3500 extra calories one way or the other (burned or consumed) to gain or lose a pound. But assuming you ate, or dieted & worked out, enough in one day to gain or lose 1 pound (for simplicity’s sake–I know it wouldnt actually be healthy) how long would it take for your scale to note the difference? And how soon before your clothes fit better or worse, if thats a different amount of time?
Need Ideas On Healthy Meals For A Diet …but Im Trying To Gain Weight Not Lose It Help!!!??
I had the same problem all throughout high school – i was trying to pack on muscle. What you first have to realize is that most likely you have a high metabolism, so most advice that people give you IS NOT going to work.
Second of all, You can’t “diet” to “strictly gain ONLY muscle” at the same time as “gaining weight”, because either way, you are going to gain some fat along with it.
What I suggest is (yes) concentrate on foods that are high in protein (essential), but also get your daily intake of all of the food groups, nutrients, & vitamins BY eating EVERYTHING! Basically, Eat, Eat, & Eat, frickin’ STUFF YOURSELF! (It sounds simple but I know its not when you have a high metab.)
Combine this with some a nice 60-90 min. workout (intensity & duration of each activity depends on your age, strength, stamina, etc.), but get a good workout (and assuming that you are “young” & decently healthy) first get your heart rate up (use an online heart rate calculator to determine what your target heart rate is) … do this by cardiovascular excersies such as running, walking, jogging, swimming, or a combination of fitness bikes, etc. THEN turn to the “dumbells” for all of your weight-lifting needs. First time, max out & see how much you can lift … then work out a routine (an every other day deal is best – AND STICK TO IT!) starting out lifting 3 sets of 10 reps each of about 60-70% of your max (in each area) (NOTE: Always start out your weight-lifting with bench press, then go into the more specific parts of your body). After you do the 3/10/60-70%, (in a week or two), move up to 3 sets of 6-8 reps each of about 70-80% of your max, & continue that CYCLE! (another NOTE: Always do about a 40% 10 rep warm-up set before lifting any heavy weight for the day.)
I also suggest using supplements (NOT STEROIDS, but Whey Protein) Get this in your body within 2 hrs. of the “end” of your workout (20 minutes is even better).
Rest whatever you worked for the day, & EAT, EAT EAT!
If you keep this up, You will eventually gain, buddy!

Can Anyone Give Me Advice Or Tips On How To Lose Weight And Gain Muscle?
Weight loss is an overall process & there are no magic answers. Pay no attention to weight loss supplements & pills & all the latest fads. You need to think about many factors but most of them are related to issues we’ve known about for a very long time. There are many sensible things you can do that will make a tremendous difference over the long term if you need to lose weight. It can be done in a healthy way. This is what has worked for me.
Keeping a food journal really does help. It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, & when, & why.
Make a few additional small changes – walk everywhere, always use stairs instead of elevators, walk on escalators, get up & move around at least once an hour if your work or your life in general is sedentary, walk every day, use a pedometer. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a really good idea. Build up to a long brisk walk everyday, or most days. Be more active & watch less TV & spend less time on the computer. Buy one piece of exercise equipment to have at home & be strict with yourself about using it. Sometimes you can find mini-steppers or exercise bikes at second hand stores & thrift stores for just a few dollars.
Start a weight lifting routine. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture & appearance overall. Even if you can’t get to the gym you can work out at home using things around the house. Invest in a good weight training book. The Dummies series actually has a good one.
In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish. Particularly if you choose a vegetarian lifestyle include natural peanut butter, hummus, dried fruit & nuts. Pay close attention to getting the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.
Make your portion sizes smaller. Use a smaller plate – in our society we have become accustomed to thinking that we need a large plate of food at every meal, & we don’t. About quarter of your plate of food should be protein & at least half of it should be veggies.
Learn to count calories. At your current weight & activity level, you may possibly need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable & healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.
Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals. Never skip breakfast. Include some protein in your breakfast. It will help get you through the day.
Drink plenty of water, at least 8 big glasses of water a day, & more if it is very hot, if you sweat a lot, or if you are exercising intensely, & eliminate fruit juices. Fruit juices have too many calories, so get your vitamins from fresh fruit, not the juice. You will begin to see changes in your body.
Vary your routines. Don’t eat the same number of calories every day (vary your calories from 1400 a day to 1900 or 2000 some days), eat a variety of foods, & do different kinds & amounts of exercise. You will lose weight much more efficiently if you mix things up from time to time so that your body doesn’t adjust to any one routine.
An area that many people overlook is getting enough sleep. You are much more likely to overeat or to binge eat if you are tired & not well rested, so get enough sleep.
